Medical records can now be accessed online in NHC

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A team at New Hanover Regional Medical Center has been working to implement new technology at the facility that transitions all medical records from paper to computers.

Starting this week at certain offices of NHRMC it will be possible for patients to go online to check test results, prescriptions and even send a message to their doctor.

Soon all the offices will be on one database, giving an up-to-the-minute medical history on a patient to different groups.

The system, called My Chart, will allow both doctors and patients to access medical records from any computer within the hospital or off-site.

Physicians will receive faster turn-around times on medical tests, x-rays and other procedures. They'll also be able to order prescriptions and check for allergies and other medical records.

From an off-site location, patients will be able to access their records from personalized homepages on www.epic.com, where they can schedule appointments and check testing results.

My Chart went online this week at facilities in Myrtle Grove, Ogden and on 16th Street in Wilmington. The goal is to have the entire campus hooked up by the middle of next year.
